Sassy Saturday - Kitchen Showers

Saturday, May 31, 2008

Since I'm currently a MOH in my best friend's wedding, I'm all about the pre-wedding events! Each Saturday I'll share a great idea on showering your bride-to-be with love.

Today we're talking kitchen themed showers.

Last year my good friend Erika got hitched, and we threw her a "Pamper the Chef" shower. Each guest was asked to bring their favourite dish and the recipe, and we complied a cookbook for the bride.

We decorated the house with kitchen utensils - which turned out better than you're probably picturing!

We bought the bride an "It's All About Me" apron to wear, and...

All our prizes were kitchen related (little gadgets, dip mixes, etc).

Today we're looking at...

Thirteen Wedding Movies I Love

1. The Wedding Singer - Despite Drew Barrymore's hair, this movie rocks, from the great soundtrack (who doesn't tear up a bit at "I Wanna Grow Old With You") to the fabulous eighties outfits. All I have to say is "Julia Gulia"!

2. Muriels Wedding - The fact that I love ABBA may have a lot to do with this one! Toni Collette is such a great actress, and really, who hasn't wanted to go in to the bridal shop and try on dresses just for the heck of it?!

3. My Big Fat Greek Wedding - Whenever you think your family is trying to control your wedding, just pop this one in the DVD player!

4. How to Marry a Millionaire - One of the best Marilyn Monroe movies made. Lauren Bacall is an absolute dynamite, and Marilyn is hilarious. Everytime I watch this one I crave hamburgers.

5. Meet the Parents - I'm not usually a fan of sequels, but the parents made this movie! Dustin Hoffman and Babs - who knew they'd make such a great team of Fockers?

6. Four Weddings and a Funeral - This film began my life long crush on Hugh Grant...

7. 27 Dresses - A newbie, but so great. I wasn't a Katherine Heigl fan until I saw this one. Plus, James Marsden? Yummy.

8. Love Actually - While it's not actually all about weddings, it is still one of my favourite films. It is absolutely heart warming, and has a great cast of characters.

9. Seven Brides for Seven Brothers - I am such a sucker for musicals, the cheesier the better!

10. Bride & Prejudice - A Bollywood take on the Austen classic!

11. Much Ado About Nothing - Ah, Kenneth Branagh... you need to make more Shakespearian films! I love this movie, in spite of the horrible acting of Keanu Reeves (Keanu Reeves + Shakespeare?!).

12. Wedding Crashers - Proof that not all wedding movies have to be romantically sappy!

13. My Best Friend's Wedding - While I wanted everyone to break out in "I Say a Little Prayer For You" at my rehearsal dinner, it just didn't happen!

Has it been almost two years...?

It's been just under two years since my husband I tied the knot, and yet I still love to pour through wedding magazines and websites... if I could plan my wedding all over again, I would in a heart beat!

I've started this blog to coincide with my invitation business, Ruby Pickles. It's been a long time in the making, but I think I've finally got all the aspects sorted out and ready to go! The point of this blog is to show you, the reader, the fun wedding things that I find online and out and about. If you see something I should add, by all means, let me know!!!
